Welcome to the Plains Rally

Plains Rally

Plains Rally 13th June 2026 Bala

The organisers of the 2026 Plains Rally wish to advise competitors, volunteers, and supporters of a revised event date. The rally will now take place on 13th June 2026, moving from the originally planned 16th May date.

This change has been made due to the team being unable to secure a suitable service area for the May date. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and flexibility, and we’re pleased to confirm that the event will continue to be based in Bala as planned.

We are also delighted to reaffirm that the 2026 Plains Rally remains a qualifying round of:

Motorsport UK Pirelli Welsh Stage Rally Championship

Protyre Autocare BTRDA Rally Series

Motorsport UK English Rally Championship

ANWCC Forest Rally Championship

SD34 Stage Rally Championship

TCS Plains Rally Challenge in support of Wales Air Ambulance

Celtic Micra Challenge

Mini Rally Challenge

Initial route plans include 44 stage miles, featuring a test not used since the Astra Stages in the early 2000s—something we know many will be excited about!

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to welcoming you to Bala in June for a fantastic day of rallying.

Plains Rally 2025

The organisers of the Plains Rally are pleased to announce that the 2025 event will be a qualifying round of the Fuchs Lubricants Motorsport UK British Historic Rally Championship, Pirelli Motorsport UK Welsh Rally Championship, ANWCC Forest Rally Championship, and the TCS Plant Rally Challenge. In addition, the organisers are looking at the possibility of running a non-championship challenge for 2 wheel-drive cars in classes A up to and including 1400cc, B 1401 up to and including 1600, and C 1601 up to and including 2000cc. The challenge event will be over 5 special stages, and there will be no service.

The Plains will run under a National and Interclub permit, and will again be based in the picturesque Eryri National Park town of Y Bala. The compact route of 98 road miles, and 43 stage miles will include special stages in Aberhirnant and Alwen. There will be 9 stages in total, with central service and refuel, in Y Bala.

Aberhirnant and Llangower are both significantly infected with phytophthora ramorum, and there are intense harvesting and haulage operations in force. There are some areas of Aberhirnant that NRW have asked us to avoid, and we are looking to maximise use of the stage mileage available to us. The haulage route in Llangower is such that we have decided not to run a stage in Llangower in 2025. Once again, NRW have asked the organisers to run a biosecurity station to help reduce the spread of phytophthora. Aberhirnant will be run last in a loop, with the biosecurity wash just before service.

Over recent years, we have been blessed with great weather for the event and we hope for the same this year. We hope to open entries in March, around the time of Rally North Wales.

As always, with an event of this type, we need the assistance of an army of marshals, who’s help is invaluable in running a successful event. Marshals can sign up with the Chief Marshal, Mike Timmins, or via RST when everything has been set up.
